Helpful Dryer Tips

If your clothes are taking too long to dry, there are a few things you should check before calling for service. Be sure your lint filter is clear. Next check the dryer venting. Be sure that the hose is not kinked, or crushed between the dryer and the wall. Very long vent hoses tend to fill up with lint and block the air flow. Keep your vent hose as short and straight as possible.

Vent restrictions are the cause of 90% of long dry time service calls. Lint build up is a fire hazard as well. Rather than cleaning the old hose replace it with a new fireproof type. Dryer manufacturers recommend not using the old white vinyl style vent, again a possible fire hazard. I recommend using metal Flex venting, which is available from us.

When there is a restriction or blockage in the vent it causes the heated air to back up in the dryer. With no where for the heat to go, the temperature in the dryer rises very rapidly. The Hi Limit safety stat kicks in at this point and turns off the heat source to prevent a fire. This happens very rapidly, and over and over again, never allowing enough heat to pass through the clothes.

So, if you are experiencing long dry times, take a look at your venting. If the venting is inaccessible, go out to where it exits your home. With the dryer running you should feel a good air flow and some heat. If not, you have a plugged/restricted vent.
